Preface

The last 12 months have been perhaps the most difficult and challenging in the history of the financial markets. Banking landscape in Asia and globally changes caused by the implications of the Global Financial Tsunami. At the beginning of 2009, series of major banking acquisitions were completed and the wave of collapses and bankruptcy filings has swept through the financial industry making survival a major priority for the remaining players.

The retail banking business has been greatly affected with most of the investment products becoming less appealing to customers due to loss of confidence. Despite the severe impact on the credit and equities market, Asia’s banking industry continues to evolve but it has great needs to explore further ways of development and new business model.

Objective

The HKIB Annual Hong Kong Banking Conference is designed to explore the opportunities for banking in Asia in 2010 and how they will affect and shape the industry. The conference will address the critical issues facing the financial service providers. Industry experts will analyze the recent government initiatives and their impact on the industry and outline how banks can construct the most effective solutions to cope with economic crisis. The discussion will focus on the competitive edges of banks and rising priorities for 2010 in particular and the future of the Asian banking industry.
