While in NY, Rob was a senior member of the Equity Liquid Markets Sales force, where he ran a team focusing on Cash & Program Trading, Futures, Options, ETFs, Swaps, Risk Arbitrage, Index Changes and Derivative Related Research. Rob joined Lehman Brothers in 1998 as US Agency Program Trading Product Manager. In this role he developed a comprehensive electronic trading platform which incorporated client connectivity, quantitative research, “smart” trading strategies, access to multiple sources of liquidity and efficient operations and settlement. He was also responsible for the sales and marketing effort for program trading. He subsequently became Global Program Trading Product Manager, and focused on rewriting the common technology that supports each of the regional headquarters.
Prior to joining Lehman Brothers, Rob was Executive Vice President and Head of Sales and Trading at Investment Technology Group (“ITG”), an agency brokerage and technology firm. Rob joined ITG in 1987 as one of its first employees. During his eleven-year tenure, he helped develop the firm’s range of advanced trading technologies, including POSIT, and helped drive their expansion into the agency brokerage business. He served as a member of ITG’s Executive Committee.
Rob received a BA in Economics from Amherst College and an MBA in Finance from the NYU Graduate School of Business Administration (Stern).

Ryan Pierce was appointed FIX Protocol Ltd’s Technical Director in November 2008. With more than 12 years experience within the electronic trading industry, much of which has been spent focused on FIX implementation projects with previous employers, Barclays Capital, Lehman Brothers and Townsend Analytics, he has developed a very strong understanding of the FPL and the potential it offers to the financial services sector.
Ryan has been an active member of FPL since the 1990s and has contributed to the development of each version of the protocol since FIX 4.1, which was released in 1998. He was responsible for adding listed derivatives support to FIX 4.1 and creating the market data suite of messages in FIX 4.2.
Ryan is an active participant on the FPL Americas Regional Committee and the Global Technical Committee (GTC) where he continues to serve on the Americas and GTC Governance Boards. He also works closely with the Global Exchanges and Markets Committee and the Account Management Working Group. He recently coordinated the delivery of the ‘FIX Security White Paper’ and in the past has been responsible for ensuring that the protocol can effectively support regulatory initiatives and aiding FPL in the development of collaborative relationships with other industry organizations.
In his role as FPL's Technical Director, Ryan is working closely with exchanges and execution venues globally to help synchronize their FIX specifications, and with the regulatory community to increase their understanding of the benefits the protocol offers. A prime example of this is the work he recently conducted with the Investment Industry Regulatory Organization of Canada that led to FPL developing an extension pack that will enable FIX 5.0 to support IIROC’s new FIX-based market regulation feed specification for market surveillance and transaction reporting. Ryan is also actively involved in adding support for parties reference data and entitlements to FIX 5.0.

Robert Rooks joined Chi-X as Head of New Business Development for APAC in 2007 and was shortly after appointed Chief Administration Officer Asia Pacific for the business in 2008. He is responsible for all aspects of Chi-X’s legal, financial and regulatory submissions and applications throughout the region. Prior to Chi-X he was the APAC Regional Director for ORC and during this time seconded to lead several exchange and FIX-related projects with OMX. Prior to this he was Global Head of FIX Products for NYFIX based in New York before moving to Hong Kong to head the development of their Asia Pacific operations. Prior to this he was based in Japan and Korea as General Manager of Misys Wholesale Banking Systems. Mr. Rooks started his career working on the International Petroleum Exchange in London and has subsequently held regional and global roles based out of Europe, the US and Asia Pacific in the banking and technology sectors.
